Knowing The Difference Between Inkjet Photo Printers And Dye-Sublimation Photo Printers
By Albert Sanders
Photo printer is divided into two common types. It is dye-sublimation photo printer and
inkjet photo printers. People usually call dye-sublimation printers as dye-sub printers and thermal-dye printers. But if you need to print more photos on reports and colored documents, it is perfect to use
inkjet photo printers. If you are a photographer then you need to print perfect photo in various sizes, you can use photo printers that are dedicated to print photo like Dye-sublimation printers. Most of dye-sub photo printers are able to print up to 4" x 6".
Most
inkjet photo printers come out ink droplets on the printed papers through nozzles in the print head. The ink droplets are usually as small as 1.2 picoliter even smaller for more expensive
inkjet photo printers. That is why these printers can inexpensively create good-quality photos. The ink system of most inkjet photo printers uses four colors such as cyan, magenta, yellow and black. This type of printer frequently uses a dithering technique where it functions to deceive your eye when looking at more colors. A perfect example of the dithering technique is when you see color pictures on newspapers. This effect will be looked clearer if you look a bit closer.
For few higher-end inkjet photo printers that are in the market, they usually have additional colors such as red, green, light cyan and light magenta. Of course this printer can produce pictures at higher quality.
Dye-sub photo printers work by heating the cyan, magenta, yellow and black ribbons for a short period of time then transferring a color photo paper to
glossy photo paper. Even you can print in a plethora of shades by using cyan, magenta and yellow. The combination of these colors can create up to 17 million colors. Some famous brands that manufacture dye-sub printers are Canon, Epson, Olympus, HP.
